IHSA By-Law 3.170 requires a 1.65 multiplier to be applied to the enrollment of every non-boundaried school. Waivers of the 1.65 multiplier are granted to individual sport and activity programs on an application basis and are not automatically applied. A sport or activity program at a particular school is not eligible for a waiver (and is therefore multiplied) for the current school term if, over the course of the previous three-year cycle, the program (as a team) has accomplished any of the following:
Girls Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Baseball, or Softball accomplishes the following:
—Wins an IHSA Sectional Semi-final contest
Wrestling or Scholastic Bowl accomplishes the following:
—Wins an IHSA Regional Tournament
Boys Track and Field, Girls Track and Field, Boys Tennis, Girls Tennis, Competitive Cheerleading, or Competitive Dance accomplishes the following:
—Wins an IHSA Sectional Tournament or finishes in the Top 10 as a team at the IHSA State Finals
Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Boys Golf, and Girls Golf, accomplishes the following:
—Wins an IHSA Regional Tournament or qualifies for the IHSA State Finals
Football, accomplishes the following:
—Wins at least one IHSA Playoff football game
It should be noted that multiplying a school's enrollment by 1.65 does not necessarily result in placement in a higher classification.
In the table below, a program's success in the IHSA state series is given in each cell. Success in Year 1 of the previous three-year cycle is shown on the left side of the slash (/); success in Year 2 is shown in the middle; success in Year 3 is shown on the right side. R is a regional title, S is a sectional title, and a number represents a program's finish in state tournament. The small letters a, b, and c represent wins in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round of the football playoffs, respectively.
The table does not include all program accomplishments considered in the waiver process, such as Sectional Semifinal wins or State qualification.
If the "success factor" is also in effect, it shows the class into which the program will be placed.
The colors indicate each program's status:
Green -- Eligible to apply for a waiver during this cycle, however, the actual/multiplied enrollment may not change classification (see School Classifications for more details).
Pink -- Multiplied and not eligible to apply for a waiver during this cycle.
Red -- Success factor during this cycle.
BKB -- boys basketball; BKG -- girls basketball, CHC -- competitive cheerleading; DAC -- competitive dance; SCB -- Scholastic Bowl; WR -- boys wrestling.
